If you need to see a Dean urgently, there is always a Duty Dean available – go to Student Reception to find out who is on duty or check the timetables posted on the Deans’ office windows.
If you need to see your Year Level Dean, you can do so during Whānau time or you can check their timetable on the internal office doors to see when they are next on duty. Your Dean can also be emailed at any time.
You can talk to your Dean about anything. Common things that your Dean can help you with are timetable or subject issues, uniform issues, concerns with homework, attendance, friendship or bullying concerns, study skills, future education planning.
Your Dean can also help you to connect with the Counsellors or the Careers Departement for further advice or discussion.
Bullying is treated very seriously at HGHS. If you report an incident, we will discuss the next steps with you. If you have been harmed or if you are at risk of harm, we will investigate the incident and follow a disciplinary process as HGHS does not condone bullying.
You will be informed of what is happening during the process. If what you have reported hasn’t caused you significant harm, you may choose to discuss some strategies with your Dean or a Counsellor about how to manage your relationships when things are challenging.
What you discuss with your Dean is confidential unless you are being harmed or you are harming yourself. In this case, we will help you to get support from our counselling team and they will make sure that there is an adult in your life that you trust who can support you.
You can see either a Counsellor or a Dean, and we will help you find the best person to help you with your query. Typically, you would see a Dean for any school-related issues. This can include issues with classes, teachers, friendships, timetable, uniform, attendance etc.
